The number of adult friendly and hilarious cartoons on Nickelodeon is astonishing. There are so many that a grown-up can actually enjoy watching with their kids (and maybe secretly when the kids aren’t even around)! They’re not for every adult. One has to posses the necessary youthful sense of humour to begin with. If you already enjoy watching the international subterranean star “SpongeBob Squarepants”, then these shows will be right up your alley. All of the following cartoons are rated TV-Y7, which means they are not appropriate for children less than seven years of age. Most contain humorous references that even teenagers wouldn’t comprehend, but they are not inappropriate in any way.

Fanboy and Chum Chum” is a newcomer to the Nickelodeon line-up. The show follows two inseparable school-aged best friends through their daily side-splitting adventures. The main characters are just plain awesome, Fanboy is voiced by famous actor David Hornsby. Not to be out done, the supporting characters are so great that each could truly have their own spin-off show. One of the characters, Kyle, is voiced by well known comedic actor Jamie Kennedy, and what a wonderful job he does. The show contains an abundance of “Star Wars” spoofs, the most comical being a regular character named Janitor Poopatine.

“The Mighty B” is another must see. It is co-created by “Saturday Night Live” star Amy Poehler, who also voices the main character Bessie Higgenbottom. The show revolves around Bessie’s involvement in a girl scout-like troop called The Honeybees, and her quest to obtain every badge available to her troop. Bessie believes that if she can attain every badge, she will turn into a real super hero, ‘The Mighty B’. Her funniest attribute, is the way she speaks, using words and phrases beyond her ten years. And even funnier yet, is the lisp that she speaks with, being afflicted like most ten-year-olds, with missing teeth. “The mighty B” is also a Daytime Emmy Award winner for Individual Achievement in Animation.

“The Penguins of Madagascar” is a spin-off from the award winning, box office hit movie, “Madagascar”. The penguins will have you rolling on the floor, laughing constantly at their crazy animal antics. Skipper, Rico, Private, and Kowalski put on fronts as sweet and lovable critters for the humans who come to visit them at the zoo. When the humans aren’t watching, is when the real fun begins. As soon as the observers are gone, the penguins escape to their secret lair filled with spy gadgets and a plethora of high tech tools. They have clever and amusing daily ‘missions’ with a goal of keeping peace at the zoo. “The Penguins of Madagascar”, is the winner of two Annie Awards, as well as a Golden Reel Award for its’ sound editing.

The next time you’re channel surfing and just can’t find anything on, try tuning to Nickelodeon. One of these great shows is likely be on, and who knows, your new favourite program just might turn out to be a cartoon.
